Seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff) or seb derm for short, is a very common skin condition that causes and itchy, flaky, greasy looking rash.
It tends to affect areas that produce more sebum (oil), such as the scalp, face, behind the ears, and the trunk.
It is not contagious and can be treated effectively.
Though seb derm is common, its causes are not completely understood.
Proliferation of a normal skin flora, Malassezia, causes an inflammatory reaction, which leads to seb derm.
It appears more frequently in winter and often improves during summer.
